Pilgrimage
130 x 100 x 5 cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas.
I don’t have a father, so growing up I was closest to my grandfather who was a lay preacher. He would read me the bible and I just loved many of the stories, but most of all that connection with someone. The painting is part of a wider investigation into ideas of vulnerability, referencing spiritual iconography of the past. It isn’t clear if they are entering or leaving a darker space. They are caught together, clearly on a journey, where their relationship is central to the narrative. While they feel they have each other, both feel forever vulnerable.
