I’m always drawn to apertures, structural forms that allow movement from one space to another. Here, that next space is the richest of dark circles built up with layer upon layer of colours. This plays with the idea of darkness being empty, yet the way it has been created is by adding more and more glazes. Like moving from light to dark, our eyes take time to find detail in our surroundings. Here too we can stare at this void in the painting until we find rich textures.
